Sweet tea law

In the state of Georgia in 2003 a law was passed which made it mandatory to serve sweet tea anytime you serve tea.

Such a great law, we're curious if they enforce it very hard.

Oh well! Gotta follow the law..... ;)

Hot Taro Coconut

As it starts to get chilly you may stop in and get a drink, when you do you may want to enjoy a hot taro coconut. The light purple drink tastes of rich creamy coconut, with frothy nutty taro (made with skim milk) over chewy warm tapioca. It's a favorite amongst many regulars right now, so we figured we'd blog about it for those who haven't yet tried it.

We hope everyone is having a great week. As it gets colder, you can enjoy what will probably be a short winter by drinking whatever delicious hot teas you like. One of the great joys of life, particularly in New York where we get such a classic lovely winter.

A new year

Many of us like to set new habits in the new year, this can include quitting or cutting down on sugar intake, or coffee intake among other things. Our ongoing joke is that you never hear anyone talk about how they are trying to quit drinking tea. It's rarely an issue for people, because of the health benefits and the smooth effects compared to in other caffeinated substances. Tea also has L-Theanine which can give you a nice calming buzz.

This year if your goal is to lose weight, you may remind yourself that tea is an effective tool for cutting calories while still keeping things around that you greatly enjoy. Our store has a nice selection of packaged teas to choose from. By weight loss teas, you can drink any tea you really enjoy and if you're having it in place of sugary snacks, it's a great replacement. The key is finding teas that you love to experience, so as you're preparing them at home or at work you're enjoying the process as well as the flavor and warmth. It's nice to wake up and heat up water, enjoying the whole ritual. This can be a very enjoyable way to start your day without the heavy calories of some other options. We firmly believe in order to lose weight you still need to be able to consume things that you truly enjoy.

Day of tea cube

We just got a new product in that is really exciting. It's from The Republic of Tea and it's called the 'Day of Tea Cube'.

It's 12 different kinds of tea in one box, all individually wrapped. When you buy it you'll get two of each flavor.

This is a great option for someone who wants to have different teas everyday, but hasn't gotten around to picking out 12 boxes of tea.

At $14.99, that's .63c per cup of tea.

Just one more point, it's a mix of traditional teas, but there are a few decaf flavors there too.

Chocolate Tea Sampler

We just got in some new tea samplers from Republic of Tea. They contain 6 peppermint chocolate teas, 6 Strawberry Chocolate Teas, 6 Coconut Cocoa Teas, and 6 Red Velvet Teas.

These make great gifts and are also good for people who are both picky, and like chocolate. It might be of note that there are people who crave chocolate during certain times of the month, depending on their schedule. We now have pomegranate oolong by the cup

We've had quite a few requests for this tea. We have it by the package and now by the cup. It smells and tastes amazing.

It's pretty often that you'll find flavored berry or pomegranate teas that just don't hold up but Harney and son's is great.

Also great is Republic of Tea's pomegranate green tea.

Google Offers Rocks!

!Google contacted us recently to help us get a new flood of tea loving customers so we can meet them by participating in their new Google Offers program. It's amazing with smart phones and the internet how quickly everyone can now find new stores that align with their interests such as us. We got to run our store promotion on their site for an entire day! Elie saw our google offer and snagged up an offer code to come check out our store with his tea loving wife Melissa. They picked up some matcha powder and some bubble teas and are now our happy customers. It's definitely no surprise to us that the more often we meet tea lovers, that many of them are often into health be it raw food, gyrotonics, yoga, or more broadly just exercise and healthy eating. Happy Friday

Happy Friday Everyone. We have some new teas, a few random tidbits and a song to share. This weekend is going to be a little rainy, hopefully everyone still has some fun plans. We just got in some new Hibiscus teas from The Republic of Tea including Vanilla Apple, and Coconut Hibiscus. Check that out if you're in the mood for something flavorful and different from the norm.

To trail off a bit, every friday night we drive a rental van full of our gear we setup at the Brooklyn Flea from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Street art in New York is a controversial issue, and although we don't condone illegal activity we do think that put in the right space that art contributes to the amazing cultural experience that New York has to offer. A great example of this we've been seeing on our weekly commute lately, is someone who is tagging gates on Bowery street in the lower east side. It's interesting because during the day, when the businesses put their gates up, everything is as normal but when they're put down, they become an easel for a local artist. Just wanted to share a photo of this, and we think it's great that this particular business left theirs up. It's understandable when the art is chaotic visually, or politically driven but something as refined as this should stay up. There was another great one, wherein a store would put their gate down to close, and the gate would read "Open 24 hours". The form of our blog is loose, we like to use it to share different things with our customers. We thought anyone who hadn't seen that would get a kick out of it.

In other news, the Upright Citizens Brigade has just opened another theater, this time in New York City's East Village. Some of you may remember a while ago when we posted a petition to allow this theater to open in New York and serve liquor. It's pretty amazing, they've now opened and are doing shows every night for like $5. They have some improv, but this theater is a little heavier on standup. There seem to be quite a few of our customers who are comedy fans. We are ourselves too.

If you're in the mood for something new at home we just got in some new white packaged teas. White Lavender, Raspberry White, and White Peony (Serendipitea Loose Boxes), Ginger Peach, Jasmine, Vanilla Coconut (Republic of Tea tea bags) and Mutan White, and White Earl Grey (Harney Sachets).

In other news our amazing customer Ruby (pictured) has opened an online store selling vintage plastics and clothing accessories from the 1920's-1950's. If you enjoy the site you can check back frequently for new items but act fast on snagging anything you like because the quantities are generally very limited, sometimes only one piece.

Rachel Mercier & her sweet stationary shop called "Mercier Beaucoup"

We know we've probably said this a hundred times before, but we LOVE our customers!! And we also love learning about all the creative things that they do. :)

For instance, we just learned that one of our neighbor Rachel Mercier curates a super cute online stationary shop called "Mercier Beaucoup". (What an absolute adorable name!) Rachel loves stationary so much that she has kept every single handwritten notes that she had ever received (including one from her fiance in 7th grade). Now that's what we call passion! And now, lucky for us, she is sharing her passion through her online store. Way to go, Rachel! :)

Cool pink hair!

We had some cool customers in over the weekend, among them were Stephanie and Karl. Stephanie had hair to match our lights and chairs. It's not everyday that you see someone with pink hair (and pink hair that looks awesome at that) but Stephanie pulls it off. Different people blend in visually with different environments, Stephanie blends in here pretty well. One of the great things about being in New York, and particularly the East Village is being able to see every color and shape of person under the sun. It makes our day very enjoyable, and we like posting a few pics of our cool customers when we have time.
